ZeAllgrate FRP Handrail System Passes OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Load Test

ZeAllgrate's pultruded FRP handrail and guardrail system has been independently load-tested and certified to meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910 walking-working surface guardrail requirements, including the 200 lbf (0.89 kN) top-rail load and the 50 lbf/ft (0.73 kN/m) intermediate-load requirements.

The tested system uses 50 mm square pultruded FRP posts, 42-inch (1070 mm) top and mid rails, and SS316 base plates. It is non-conductive, corrosion-proof and non-sparking, making it suitable for chemical plants, wastewater treatment plants, telecom towers and offshore platforms. Test reports are available from the download center.

Project engineers can specify the ZeAllgrate FRP handrail system alongside molded or pultruded grating for a complete corrosion-proof access package. Sample sections and load test reports: [email protected].

Test Programme Details

The handrail system was independently load-tested against the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 walking-working surface guardrail criteria: a 200 lbf (0.89 kN) concentrated load applied to the top rail at any point, and a 50 lbf/ft (0.73 kN/m) distributed load applied to the intermediate rail. The tested configuration uses 50 mm square pultruded FRP posts, 42-inch (1070 mm) top and mid rails, and SS316 base plates — a standard system configuration that can be adapted to deck heights and corner layouts on project orders.

System Capabilities

  • Non-conductive — no earthing burden around electrical equipment; safe in step-and-touch hazard zones.
  • Corrosion-proof — no paint cycles in chemical and marine service; stainless hardware throughout.
  • Non-sparking — suitable for classified hazardous areas where steel tools and rails present a spark risk.
  • Low maintenance — the system requires cleaning only, matching the grating it protects.

Applicable Environments

The certified system is specified across chemical plants, wastewater treatment works, telecom towers, offshore platforms, power stations and food plants — anywhere that combines a fall-protection requirement with a corrosive or electrically sensitive environment. Test reports and system drawings are available from the downloads library, and the system can be quoted together with ZeAllgrate grating, stair treads and ladders for a fully integrated access package.

What the Certification Covers

The load test verifies the complete system — rail sections, post spacing and base mounting — against the OSHA 29 CFR 1910 criteria for walking-working surfaces. The report is available from the downloads library and should be requested for the exact component combination and spacing on the project drawing, because the certified values apply to the tested configuration. In chloride service the SS316 hardware version is specified; the non-conductive construction suits electrical and hazardous areas.
