Safety
Proper hold-down prevents panel uplift, walking under load and edge lift β the leading cause of grating incidents.
Load transfer
Clips transfer panel loads into the support structure at the right locations; under-fastening overloads bars.
Thermal movement
FRP expands with temperature. Correct clip type and slotted holes allow movement without warping or stress.
Select by grating thickness and support geometry
Clips per mΒ² and load ratings are indicative; verify against the support angle thickness and load case.

Always use washers under both bolt head and nut; in FRP-to-FRP fixing, pre-drill a pilot hole to prevent delamination.

Toe boards typically required β₯ 100 mm high where objects could roll or fall (OSHA 1910.23; ISO 14122-3).
Accommodating thermal growth
FRP grating moves with temperature. Provide movement provisions for long or exposed runs.
Expansion joint clip
Allows longitudinal slip at fixed supports; use on runs > 6 m or where temperature range > 40 Β°C.
Slotted-hole washer
Elongated holes in support angles let panels slide under thermal expansion without binding.
Thermal gap spacer
Maintain 3 β 5 mm end/edge gaps; avoids compressive buckling on hot days.

Recommended for clean, safe fabrication on site
Cutting
Carbide-tipped circular saw blades or abrasive diamond cutting discs; support both sides of the cut.
Drilling
Carbide-tipped masonry/glass drill bits; slow speed, coolant; pre-drill FRP-to-FRP screws.
PPE
Dust mask/respirator (glass dust), safety gloves, eye protection; wet cutting recommended to suppress dust.
Measuring
Tape, square and chalk line; mark cut lines clearly and radius corners.
Per grating type and thickness
Fasten every panel at every support intersection; never fewer than 4 clips per panel.

<b>Galvanic corrosion warning:</b> dissimilar metals (e.g. galvanized steel clips on stainless supports, or aluminum trim near stainless fasteners) accelerate corrosion in wet/chloride service. Isolate with washers/bushings or select compatible alloys. In ultra-corrosive service use FRP clips or Hastelloy.
