ZeAllgrate Fiberglass Mesh & Tape — Complete Specifications
Reinforcement mesh and joining tape
Fiberglass mesh is an alkali-resistant grid used to bridge cracks and reinforce repairs; fiberglass tape is a narrow woven or unidirectional strip used for edge banding, joining and wrapping.
Alkali-resistant mesh
Zirconia-coated AR-glass grid (4 × 4 to 10 × 10 mm) that retains > 90% strength after alkaline exposure — ideal for cement, stucco and resin repair.
Woven / uni tape
Narrow E-glass tape (25 – 100 mm wide) — woven for balanced join strength, unidirectional for high warp-direction reinforcement.
Self-adhesive repair tape
Pressure-sensitive acrylic backing for quick temporary fixing of mesh before resin wet-out — fast on-site repair.
AR grid mesh and self-adhesive mesh tape
Tensile strength is per 50 mm width, warp and weft; alkali retention is after 28 days in saturated NaOH.
| Product | Mesh Size (mm) | Weight (g/m²) | Width (mm) | Roll Length (m) | Tensile Strength (N/50 mm, warp / weft) | Alkali Resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard AR Mesh | 5 × 5 | 160 | 1000 | 50 | 1250 / 1250 | > 90% retention after 28 d NaOH |
| Standard AR Mesh | 5 × 5 | 200 | 1000 | 50 | 1600 / 1600 | > 90% retention after 28 d NaOH |
| Standard AR Mesh | 4 × 4 | 145 | 1000 | 50 | 1100 / 1100 | > 90% retention after 28 d NaOH |
| Standard AR Mesh | 10 × 10 | 240 | 1000 | 50 | 1800 / 1800 | > 90% retention after 28 d NaOH |
| Self-adhesive Mesh Tape | 5 × 5 | 65 | 50 – 200 | 20 | 600 / 600 | > 85% retention |
Values are typical mill specifications for AR-glass mesh; confirm against the mill certificate and the required crack-bridging design.
Woven, unidirectional and self-adhesive repair tape
Tensile strength is total strip tensile for the full width; woven tape is balanced, unidirectional tape is warp-dominated.

Where mesh & tape are used
Grating panel repair
Crack bridging and edge rebuild on damaged FRP grating panels.
Edge banding reinforcement
Tape over cut edges to seal glass ends and stiffen the perimeter.
Concrete / stucco reinforcement
AR mesh embedded in render and stucco to control cracking.
Pipe wrapping
Woven tape over resin to build axial/circumferential reinforcement on repairs.
Mold making
Tape and mesh over patterns to build rigid, crack-resistant moulds.
Boat / composite repair
General composite lay-up repair and insulation facing.
Surface prep, wet-out and finishing
Surface preparation
Clean and abrade the repair area; remove dust, oil and loose gel-coat; feather edges.
Resin application
Brush a coat of matching resin (polyester / VE / epoxy) onto the prepared surface before laying mesh.
Wet-out technique
Work the mesh/tape flat into the resin with a brush or ribbed roller; remove air and avoid wrinkles.
Overlap
Minimum 50 mm overlap of mesh/tape over the sound laminate on every side.
Curing
Cure per resin datasheet (typically 2 – 4 h gel, 24 h handling at 20 °C).
Sanding / finishing
Sand the cured repair flush and top-coat with matching resin or gel-coat.
Step-by-step repair using mesh / tape + resin
A standard field repair for a cracked or locally damaged FRP grating panel.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1. Damage assessment | Identify the extent of damage; load-test or inspect for hidden delamination before repair. |
| 2. Cut out | Cut out the damaged area back to sound laminate; radius all corners to avoid stress concentration. |
| 3. Prepare | Abrade and clean the surrounding area; feather edges; dry thoroughly. |
| 4. Apply mat | Lay down chopped strand mat / woven roving plies of matching resin into the cut-out. |
| 5. Apply mesh / tape | Lay mesh/tape over the repair (top and, where accessible, bottom); ≥ 50 mm overlap; wet out fully. |
| 6. Cure | Allow full cure per resin datasheet; apply release film for a smooth finish. |
| 7. Sand | Sand flush and inspect for voids or dry spots; re-infiltrate if needed. |
| 8. Topcoat | Apply matching resin / gel-coat topcoat; re-grit if the walking surface requires anti-slip. |
Load-rated repairs should be designed by a qualified engineer; a repaired panel may not retain full original span capacity and should be derated or re-rated.
Mesh / tape bridged over a damaged grating bar
Schematic, not to scale. Mesh/tape overlaps the sound laminate by ≥ 50 mm on each side.
Mesh and tape values are typical mill specifications. Load-bearing repairs must be engineered for the specific grating and service condition. Contact [email protected] for repair-kit datasheets and resin matching.
AR Mesh vs. Standard Mesh
| Property | Standard E-glass Mesh | Alkali-Resistant (AR) Mesh |
|---|---|---|
| Alkali resistance | Limited — degrades in cement/lime environments | AR coating protects the glass in high-pH service |
| Typical use | General reinforcement, non-alkali contact | Plastering, tiling, external wall insulation (EIFS) |
| Service life in render | Years depending on exposure | Designed for the life of the wall system |
Tape Specifications and Selection
Self-adhesive tape is selected by width, mesh opening and adhesion: standard widths cover drywall jointing (jointing plasterboard seams and corners), while wider rolls serve repair and reinforcement work. The open-weave fibreglass construction gives dimensional stability where paper tape tears or blisters, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive applies directly to gypsum board or repair surfaces without a separate bedding coat. Choose alkali-resistant mesh for any cementitious contact and standard mesh for non-alkali composite and drywall work.
Installation and Acceptance
- Surface prep — clean, dry and dust-free substrate; remove loose render or compound before applying.
- Embedding — press the mesh into a fresh compound or resin bed; full embedment, not surface laying.
- Overlap — overlap adjacent strips by 50–100 mm and feather the joint to avoid a raised line.
- Acceptance — verify roll batch, width and mesh count on delivery; store rolls dry and within shelf life.
