Color is integral to the resin system (pigmented through the panel), not a surface paint — so it will not chip or peel like painted steel.

Outdoor UV Stability
UV-Stabilized Grade
In direct sunlight, unstabilized resin can chalk and fade over years. For outdoor, coastal and open-deck service, specify the UV-stabilized resin grade to retain colour and surface integrity.
Colour Fading Expectation
Even UV-stabilized FRP slowly lightens in intense UV — this is surface chalk, not structural loss. It does not affect strength or corrosion resistance.

Use Colour as Signage
Many plants color-code grating by zone, hazard or function — yellow edges at drops, red at fire equipment, blue along walkways. Specify this at order stage.

Safety Colour Coding in Practice
Colour coding on FRP grating does real safety work when it is applied deliberately. Yellow is specified at mezzanine edges, stair nosings, and around open hatches where the eye must pick out a hazard boundary before the foot reaches it. Red marks fire equipment zones and high-energy areas where access is restricted or protected. Blue identifies pipe racks and designated walkways so maintenance crews move along defined routes in congested plants. The coding is integral to the panel — it cannot be painted over or worn off — which is exactly why process plants specify it rather than site-applied paint.
Custom Colours and Branded Installations
Beyond the standard palette, ZeAllgrate produces custom colours for architectural facades, municipal identity schemes and client brand requirements. Because the pigment is mixed into the resin at the production stage, custom colours are manufactured to a colour-match standard against your approved sample. Order custom colours in sufficient quantity for the whole project at once: batch-to-batch colour consistency is controlled by production lot, and matching a later phase to an earlier one is simpler when the pigment formula and lot history are documented — which ZeAllgrate records and supplies with the order.
UV and Fade Expectations
All FRP will eventually show some surface change outdoors, and it is important to specify expectations honestly. UV-stabilised grades retain colour and surface integrity far longer — typically years of minimal change — while unstabilised resin will chalk and fade measurably over time. The fade is a surface phenomenon, not a structural one: strength and chemical resistance are unaffected. For coastal and high-UV installations, specify the UV grade and light colours; for indoor process areas where UV is not a factor, the standard palette is fully adequate and lower cost.

A dark deck in direct sun can run 20–30 °C above air temperature, while a light-coloured deck stays closer to ambient — a real consideration for surface-touch comfort in pedestrian areas and for thermal movement in long outdoor runs. Where both solar load and surface comfort matter — walkways, water parks, architectural decks — the colour selection is part of the thermal design, not just an aesthetic choice.
